Recording is actually very easy: Just hit the record button in the Transport Panel at the top of the main window.
Close to that record button, there are 2 little state buttons, 1 for audio and 1 for events. These control what you actually record.
So if you want to record audio, make sure the audio button is on!
A new recording is always put on a new empty track. You can always move the new recording to another track if you want.
Right-clicking the record button pops up the record preferences. Here you can for example define from which audio inputs you want to record from.
If you want a metronome during recording, activate the metronome in the Transport Panel.
